Quality Street
in the 1930s only the really wealthy could buy them but the creator wanted to make them cheaper to be more suitable for the working families. By the 1950s when this campaign started society was a in a post-rationing period where luxuries like chocolate were once again becoming more popular in shops.
The 1950s saw a change in 'high culture" a time when fine art, decadences and theatre that had upper classes and those with money were now going to be made more affordable.
structure and design of the advert- it shows the main picture really big and at fills up most of the space while all the writing for the sweets and name is in one place close to the bottom
typography- it shows the name of the company in big fancy font and in a different color than most of the other text wich is in a small normal font
persuasive-
connotations- the golden frame around the man acts like a halo showing hes good also the women being dressed like the sweets says that they are objects or seen as sweets
the dilemma-
class- how they are dressed and the golden frame for the picture and the fact that they can even afford it shows us that they are rich and have a lot of money
the first impression i get when i see this is that the people in this add are that they are high class people and they have a lot of money the blue ish suit the man is wearing shows he is a man on business and importance the 2 women's clothing are bright colourful colors that most of the time are associated with wealth like the bright reds and greens
i think the type of lifestyle they lead is a very wealthy high end life with the bright reds and greens we can also see this with how the picture frame is gold also the fact that the tin is overflowing with the sweets shows that they can afford a lot of them
the message i think they are portraying is that they are a very high brand sweet with all the connotations with wealth and riches showing that there sweets are fit for mostly wealthy people
Historical Advert Set text
L\O; to explore the context and representations in the historical set text
in advert 2 it shows us that men are the leader / provider and women need to do everything else like clean take of kids and do everything the husband says
in advert 1 it shows that the women need to carry in the food and clean up while the man and the boy get to play and rest as the women do all the work
in advert 2 it shows a naked women lying next to a mans shoe saying "keep her where she belongs" this might be showing that she belongs in the bedroom and is only useful to make kids and do whatever the mans says
in advert 1 it shows us that women need to take care of the man by cooking for him and bringing him food in bed and basically being his servant
in advert it shows us that the man is the provider and leaves the house we can see this with how the man is wearing a very expensive looking suit showing he has a very important job when the women is in like daily cloths and is cooking it is also shown that the man dose not care that the food is burnt because he has beer showing how little he cares for his wife / her cooking
the female gender roles in the 1950s was that they had to stay at home and do all the jobs around the house like take care of the children, cook, clean and make sure the husband was happy ect.
the male gender roses in the 1950s was that they would pretty much rule over the house go to a job and provide the money to the family and relax and do nothing as the women would take care of all the jobs around the house.
1. the effect of the man in the middle shows that hes the main focus and all the attention is on him
2. the effect of man looking down at his lap is that
3. the effect of the having a nice suit is that it shows that he is the provider and hes the one with the job
4. the effect of the women kissing the man is that it shows if u buy there sweets women will love u and it doesn't matter that there are multiple women as long as they get the sweets
Do Now
1. The dominant gender in this advert i think is the man
2. the reasons i think this is because he is in the middle of the picture hes the one holding the sweets and he has a suit wich shows he has job and is providing the money while the women have bright colorful clothing not really job clothing and they are the colors of the sweets
L\O: to explore the possible exam style questions for advertising
in the quality street advert men are shown as the dominant gender we see the man is in the middle of the advert wearing a nice smart suit and is holding the overflowing tub of sweets as two women in very colorful clothing are next to him kissing his cheek all this shows thats the man is the one of the main focus points of the add his nice smart suit shows that he is a man of business and is the provider of money the fact that hes the one holding the tub of sweets shows that hes the one who bought them and owns them the fact that the tub is overflowing just show that the man is able to get a lot of the sweets also with the women wearing the colorful clothing we can see that the clothing has the same color and look of some of the sweets in tub telling us that women are sweet and are owned by who ever can afford them

advert 1: this shows royal guards standing by a laptop wich could be telling us that the people who use the broadband will have the same safety as a royal
advert 2: this add is saying not to look at the burger like a piece of meat this is mostly said by women when men are flirting with them the burger looks like its on a bed and most of the text is implying a lot of intimate things with the red velvet bed "stop staring at me like im a piece of meat" shows this
advert 3: this shows that the car is the new better upgraded version of the older sport / race cars
advert 4: this shows a the hulk with a plaster on his finger it is very important that they chose the hulk because of his green colour it makes the "skin" coloured plaster stand out more

fiat in this ad shows there cars and luxuries fast and sporty they also show a man jumping in glee in front of his car this add talks about the design and model of the car the colours are once again bright and joyful the man is also wearing casual clothing and the colours are more stereotypical manly colours like red green and blue they also talk a lot about sports and games with its attended audience clearly being men

women in advertising
- regardless of gender both sides like sports
- its mostly females that worry about what other people think
- this girl can is a national campaign launched in 2016
- it was developed by sport England and funded by the national lottery
- because it was funded by the lottery they didn't need money so there was no advertising in there adds
- the purpose was to break down the barrier holding women back form sports
- before this girl can, research shows that there was a massive gender gap between men and women in sports 2 million fewer 14-40 year old women then men
- 13 million said that they want to participate more just over 6 million of these were not active at all
- as result of the campaign over 1.6 million women have started exercising and the number of women playing sports and being active is increasing faster then men
- soon after the launch nike released a more motivational campaign called better for it
all of the this girl can adverts tell us that women can do what they want no matter what anyone says
1 nike: the women in this add is represented as strong this can be seen with her holding onto the rope so tightly and is telling the reader that to be good at something you have to get good at it first
2 nike: the women in this add is shown us brave because she might be shy about her body but she is still willing to go outside and go on a run witch shows that all u have to do is be confident in your self
3. adidas: in this advert they represent the women almost like royalty and a winner it shows her on a running track and saying "take the crown" is saying that she is going to win the race and get to the best/top taking the crown from the person before her
this advert shows a women drenched in sweat as shes dancing saying "sweating like pig feeling like a fox" tells us that she has been working out a lot and even tho she is covered in sweat she feels elegant and care free like a fox tho this women is not the best looking in this state her hair is unkept and messy, her cloths are messy and sweat covered unlike the nike and adidas ones when they have sexy super models in nice sporty cloths with there neatly done up and they are more physically fit then the average women witch doesn't work with the message they are saying there telling women to get up and get in shape by using very clearly already fit and in shape women to represent there audience
it tells and shows us more of what women can do and it can say a lot more then the print poster witch has to fit text onto a screen unlike when its a video it also had shown a lot of different women doing different things.

sweat:

- hot
- unclean
- active
- fat
- ugly
- dirty
- smelly
- slow
- loud
- sneaky
- calm
- smart
- elegant

- killer
this "this girl can advert" has used 2 similes witch are "sweating like a pig" and "feeling like a fox" the first one is saying that she is sweating like a pig witch are usually unclean loud and covered in mud but the feeling like a fox one makes it so the women has gone from unclean and messy to elegant sly and cunning like a fox
the font in this advert is serif witch could be connected to women because the font is slim and curvy witch is very feminine unlike the big bold blocky fonts also the small and slim font shows more of the main image in the back
the reason they made her look like this is because unlike most adds they do not want to show these women as already perfect super models they make her hair scruffy and untidy the colours of her cloths very different showing she dose not have the expensive sporty cloths to wear and her body and cloths are drenched in sweat once again unlike all the super models you see in other adds when they are covered in makeup and dont have a single drop of sweat on them "this girl can' wants to show the real average women doing things that they have not mastered yet.
similarity: both have women in it, both are focusing on one thing
to make women feel like they can do anything and aren't limited to what others say it also makes women feel confident and feel good about there body no matter how it looks

question 1 this girl can:
explore how the print ad for this girl uses media language to create meanings
(a) text/written language
In the this girl can ad they use very slim and small text witch could be representing women since most women are stereotypical seen as small slim and elegant, the text they have used is also very feminine with the style of the text they also have the main text on there ad be the biggest text so it is the first thing that gets seen when u look at the ad to catch more peoples attention
The main text on there is "sweating like a pig feeling like a fox" and pigs are mainly represented as big fat disgusting smelly animals who are always dirty and slow unlike foxes who are fast elegant smart sly and dangerous this tells us that even tho the women is messy like a pig from the workout she feels elegant and fast like a fox they probably said this to make it so after women are done with there workout they still think they are elegant and fast now matter how "bad" they may look
(b) visual codes( lighting, dresses, images)
They make the model wear cloths that are kinda sporty and the type of cloths you will find at home unlike most ads when they make the model wear there brand of brand new very sporty expensive matching cloths without a sing drop of sweat on them when in This Girl Can the women is covered in sweat her cloths dont match they do this to show that this is what most of the women who do want to get in shape and get fit look like they are showing the average women not some already fit super model
They have the model in a weird awkward pose when she is half way through her workout unlike most ads that there model posing in a "cool" way showing of there brand This Girl Can dosen't do this to show that working out / getting fit isn't like what you will see on tv you will be looking weird in some poses as u do it thats what its really like and this girl can wants to show it
In This Girl Can they show the model with messy un tidy hair thats dripping sweat witch is in a messy not well done bun as she works out when most ads show there model with there hair nicely done and well kept as they work out witch is very un realistic This Girl Can wants to show women what you are ment to look like when you work out and to not be ashamed if you do look messy or sweaty this shows that This Girl Cans message is that women no matter their body type can get exercise and get in shape and they just have to believe in themselves
